The Status of Construction at the Town of Whitehall

A report from the Desk of Whitehall’s Construction Project Manager Vinnie Colonna
Greetings! Periodically we plan to update you on our progress. We thought this would be especially helpful for local residents.
The Town of Whitehall broke ground on our mixed-use development along the southern bank of the Chesapeake and Delaware Canal on November 10, 2014. Specifically, work has begun on Lorewood Grove Road.
Although right now we are focused on both sides of the road, the concentration of the development for the next few years will be on the north side, towards the canal.
The preliminary sitework is underway, including the excavation for sediment traps that prevent improper runoff into the local streams. On the south side of Lorewood Grove Road, the construction team is now working on the ongoing sanitary sewer and the first pump station’s excavation. The pump station is expected to be completed by June 2015. We also bored under Lorewood Grove Road to prevent any damage to Lorewood Grove Road.
So what about the schedule?
In addition to our focus on sediment control, we are paying close attention to the environment. The construction team at the Town of Whitehall is taking special precautions to maintain specimen trees located on site. Construction fencing was erected to protect specimen trees from any harm or damage during the construction process.
Model homes should be underway in Spring 2015 and the groundbreaking for resident homes is planned for summer 2015. Preselling of homes will begin in late February and the sales operation will relocate to a trailer on-site by April. The first residents are expected to be in their homes by the end of the year.
